Thermo Ayous
Ayous, sometimes known as Obeche or African Whitewood, is a hardwood grown in the Central and Western regions of Africa. Ayous is a relatively fast-growing hardwood, with trees rising up to 50m in height.
The natural properties of the timber are enhanced using a heat treatment process.
The Thermal Modification works by heating the timber, whilst under pressure, to temperatures exceeding 200 degrees-C. This process takes place within a purpose-built kilning vessel and is highly monitored and computer controlled.
The heat treatment changes the cellular structure of the wood, creating a naturally durable product (Class 1 durability) that is non-toxic and dimensionally stable, ideally suited for external claddings.
The modified timber adopts a beautiful mid brown colour tone, attractive grain and is virtually clear of knots.

We distribute sawn timber, directly from our Thermo modification facility in Estonia, or via our covered warehouse storage in the North West of England.
Readymade profiles can also be offered, along with Fire treatment services if needed.
